I saw some responses in another question that some people think the fires here in CA are a "punishment", whether for Prop 8, voting for Obama, being full of Dems in general, etc... As a Rep born and raised in SoCal (my house and work are both within a few miles of the fire that occurred in Orange County this weekend), I can tell you these fires are normal. Actually, this is not even a bad year. We get what are called Santa Ana winds this time of year, where the wind blows from inland desert areas (think Palm Springs) out toward the ocean (normally, the winds blow inland). These Santa Anas are very strong, and very dry, so we always have fires. That's why I don't live right next to open terrain (which is always covered with dry brush this time of year). Does anyone else think it's a little silly, primitive even, that people think natural, cyclical occurrences like this (or floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, etc.) are a "sign"? Don't people realize that s*** happens in life, and you have to prepare, and make the best of things? Sorry, this just seems so primitive to me to think that these natural events are signs....
